The geometric edge of the small Castello tray is inspired by the castellated walls of Malta's historical country house of Villa Bologna. However, the lacquer technique that this design celebrates originates in the East and it's The Lacquer Company's goal to bring the Eastern tradition to the modern West. The used process of centuries-old Son Mai is native to Saigon, Vietnam where each piece is made intuitively by hand by one of the skilled local craftsmen.
